Chief Constables' Message

We really welcome your interest in joining our Police Force. It is a privilege to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police who continuously work selflessly and tirelessly in order to keep people in our counties safe.

We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.

We wish you all the very best with your application.

Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

Our Safeguarding Investigation Units (SIU) conduct specialist investigations to pursue those who target and exploit societies most vulnerable. They undertake specialist safeguarding and work with partners to protect people who are at greatest risk and are unable to protect themselves.

As a Crime Investigator no two days are the same. Your day could start with attending the scene of a serious crime to gather available evidence and direct urgent enquires. You could then move on to interviewing and processing a person in custody for a serious offence.

To be successful you will need to have the skills to deal with challenging situations involving vulnerable adults and children and be confident in difficult and unexpected situations. Your investigative work and skills will be crucial in helping Sussex Police to continue preventing crime and protecting the most vulnerable.

This role will require you to work a shift pattern including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. In return we offer a starting salary of £30,375 plus enhancements of approximately £6,000 to reflect shift and weekend working. We also provide excellent ongoing training and continuous professional development.

Our Safeguarding Investigation Unit hubs are based at: Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, Crawley and Littlehampton.

Currently, we have three Crime Investigator (Pip 2) vacancies at Brighton, based at John Street Police Station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your role may require you to represent Sussex police at multi-agency strategy discussions and case conferences.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who have either experience or an interest in Public Protection including domestic abuse, child sexual abuse, stalking and serious sexual assaults.

You should already be a qualified investigator (PIP1) or have suitable skills and experience that would allow for grandparent rights.

An essential requirement of the role is to have a pass in the National Investigators Exam and the commitment to obtain the qualification of PIP 2 within 18 months of appointment.
