Major Crime Investigation Officer (Designated)

We are now recruiting for PiP1 qualified Major Crime Investigation Officers (MCIO) to join our Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) is a regional collaboration which investigates murder and other homicides, brings offenders to justice and provides excellent support to families and the wider public.  The collaboration provides its expertise across Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire police forces so successful candidates should anticipate frequent travel across the region.

The MCIT team comprises of investigators (DC and MCIOs), intelligence analysts, CCTV specialists, HOLMES indexers and typists amongst other roles.  Successful candidates will be expected to work across a variety of functions, growing in experience and expertise across key investigative areas which make up a Major Incident Room (MIR).  The role provides job satisfaction and variety – one day you might be seizing vital CCTV from a scene, the next you’re assisting a forensic post-mortem, whilst the one after that you are supporting a Crown Court trial.  There are lots of areas for personal development.

When a new murder investigation commences you will see the MCIT’s ability and teamwork first hand.  Working as part of this large and diverse team you’ll play an active part in briefings and debriefs, manage your own investigative actions and communicate effectively with the team and Senior Investigating Officer (SIO).  The role requires a number of key attributes including personal responsibility, attention to detail, and a drive for excellence.

We will provide you with the support and training you need to perform the role well, such as HOLMES database training and a mentor.  We will also support you in achieving PiP2 accreditation if required.

We are looking for bright and enthusiastic MCIOs who are motivated to provide an excellent service to the public in the investigation of major crime.  The role of MCIT MCIO is interesting, dynamic, varied and rewarding.  If this sounds appealing to you – and it should! - we hope you’ll take the time to apply to join us.
