Job Title: Accredited Financial Confiscator - Economic Crime – Asset Recovery Team - 01
Salary: The starting salary is £48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime Unit within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police.
We are looking for accredited financial confiscators to conduct accredited financial confiscation investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, using statutory powers to seize, freeze, and recover criminal assets. The role focuses on managing cases from referral through to court presentation, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and contributing to the delivery of income to the Metropolitan Police Service through the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identify and pursue assets linked to criminal activity by receiving referrals from operational teams, assessing financial intelligence, and applying statutory powers, to ensure criminal assets are restrained or confiscated.
• Conduct financial investigations by gathering and analysing data from banks, HMRC and other sources, to calculate the benefit of offending and prepare accurate financial reports for use in proceedings.
• Secure and manage evidence by maintaining comprehensive records, preparing legally compliant statements, and ensuring disclosure obligations are met, to support both civil and criminal proceedings.
• Exercise accredited confiscator powers (e.g. cash seizure, account freezing orders, restraint orders) in compliance with POCA, to lawfully disrupt and recover criminal assets.
• Present evidence in court by making applications at magistrates’ and crown courts and giving evidence under oath, to support the successful enforcement of confiscation and forfeiture orders.
• Work collaboratively with partners including CPS, HMRC, financial institutions, and legal representatives, to progress investigations, secure evidence, and support enforcement outcomes.
• Maintain professional accreditation through the Proceeds of Crime Centre (NCA) by evidencing CPD and PDP requirements, to retain authority to exercise confiscator powers.
• Manage personal caseload by prioritising investigations, meeting statutory deadlines, and exercising autonomy in decisions to progress or close cases, to ensure compliance with legal and organisational requirements.
