This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime Confiscation Enforcement Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police.
We are looking for accredited financial investigators to conduct accredited financial investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA), seizing and recovering criminal assets through civil and criminal processes. The focus of the role is to secure the forfeiture and confiscation of cash and assets, thereby meeting the Metropolitan Police Service’s statutory duties and contributing to the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme (ARIS).
Working for the Met doesn’t have to mean patrolling the streets. Just as important as our uniformed officers is our 14,000-strong team of professional and support staff working behind the scenes. It’s these skilled people who provide the organisational capability to police London.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify enforcement opportunities through research of JARD and financial databases, ensuring outstanding confiscation orders are pursued and Section 22 applications progressed.
- Seize and secure assets linked to investigations, applying civil and criminal powers to prevent loss and recover criminal property.
- Analyse financial intelligence received from banks, the National Crime Agency, and other partners, deciding on proportionate enforcement action to protect public funds.
- Conduct financial investigations by obtaining and evaluating financial data, calculating benefit from offending, and identifying assets available for confiscation.
- Prepare evidential reports, statements, and disclosure schedules that comply with legal standards, enabling successful proceedings.
- Present evidence and make applications in magistrates’ and crown courts to secure confiscation and forfeiture orders.
- Maintain accreditation with the Proceeds of Crime Centre by completing continuous professional development and evidential submissions, ensuring legal powers are retained.
- Manage workload autonomously, prioritising cases to meet statutory and court deadlines and progressing or closing cases appropriately.
Closing date: In order to streamline our recruitment process, we reserve the right to expire vacancies prior to the advertised closing date once we have received a sufficient number of applications.
