ERSOU - ROCU - Police Staff SO1-PO2 Financial Investigator - Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU)

Join the Eastern Region Special Operation Unit’s (ERSOU) Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU) and play a vital role in tackling serious and organised crime across the Eastern Region. Our team of accredited Financial Investigators work at the forefront of asset recovery, ensuring crime does not pay. We have one current vacancy within the Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU) based at Newmarket, Suffolk. Any successful candidates who are board-passed will be considered for projected future vacancies which could be based at either Newmarket, Suffolk or Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

As a Financial Investigator in the RECU, you will:

Provide specialist financial investigative support to serious and organised crime investigations at force or regional level.

Conduct asset recovery investigations to disrupt criminality and be at the forefront of using all available powers to recover assets under the Proceeds Of Crime Act 2002 and related legislation.

Work with a high caseload of both criminal and civil investigations.

Present evidence in court and engage with legal representatives to ensure effective management of investigations and hearings.

This is a demanding role where you’ll work with minimal supervision, manage a high workload, and make quick, well-judged decisions. In return, you’ll gain the satisfaction of tackling acquisitive crime, returning compensation to victims, and making a real difference—within a supportive and inclusive team.

What We’re Looking For

Ideally, full or partial NCA Financial Investigator accreditation (including Confiscator Parts 2, 5 & 8).

Strong knowledge of POCA 2002 and all related legislation.

Comprehensive report writing and IT skills (especially Excel).

Inquisitive, decisive, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent problem-solving skills and tactful communication.

Willingness to participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours financial enquiries (currently one shift every 10 weeks).

You’ll be primarily based at either our Stevenage or Newmarket hub, with potential to work from other ERSOU hubs. We support agile working—some tasks can be completed remotely from home or other designated sites.

Your designated place of work can be considered as part of the recruitment process and can be discussed in advance with the contact point named in this advert.
