Job Title: POCA Confiscator – Payback Units

Salary: The starting salary is £48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.

The salary is broken down as £45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Stoke Newington, Walworth, Wandsworth, Hammersmith, Croydon and Islington.

Contract: 2 Year Fixed term contract         


The Metropolitan Police Service Economic Crime (EC) Command is part of Central Specialist Crime and specialises in the investigation of fraud and money laundering offences and the conduct of financial investigations. EC has a wide range of strands as it tackles some of the most serious offenders and prevents them gaining financially from their crimes. It also manages a wide range of investigations including sensitive, high-profile enquiries that span national and international boundaries. This is a unique opportunity for experienced POCA Confiscators to join the newly formed BCU Payback Units, and to be successful in this role you will:

  • Maintain FIO/FI/Confiscation/CRISP accreditation as per the Proceeds of Crime Centre requirements
  • Tutor AFIs through their FI and FIO training
  • Investigate allegations of money laundering, tracing assets in the UK and overseas, and analysing financial accounts and bank statements.
  • Lead in the financial investigation of all appropriate cases
  • Prepare orders under POCA such as production, detention, freezing and forfeiture orders
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for the recovery of criminal assets using Part 5 powers for the forfeiture and seizure of cash, funds held in bank accounts and where accredited, listed assets and crypto currency
  • Conduct confiscation and restraint investigations, including the preparation of Section 16 and 41 statements
  • Attend court and obtain POCA orders at Magistrates and Crown Courts, and give evidence in relation to financial investigations and confiscations
  • Take responsibility for the financial aspect of designated operations, liaising closely with case officers, attending briefings, and assisting with the development of the investigation
  • Contribute to asset recovery for the Met
  • Support the wider Met with financial intelligence and financial investigations
  • Maintain your own continuing professional development

About you

  • To be a success in this vital role it’s essential that you possess the following skills and expertise:
  • Confiscator accreditation (including Part 5 powers) with a proven track record of conducting and concluding investigations under POCA
  • Experience of court procedures and processes, including giving evidence
  • Knowledge and understanding of CPIA disclosure rules
  • Proficient IT skills with well developed knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • The ability to assimilate and analyse large quantities of information and make sound judgements
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the confidence to produce and present clear, concise and accurate reports suitable for court proceedings
  • Excellent communication, planning, organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and prioritise a demanding workload while meeting legislative deadlines
  • Experience of using Altia banking analysis software would be desirable
