ERSOU - CTP Police Staff SO1 - Prevent Officer
An exciting role has arisen for a Police staff Prevent officer. The purpose of the role is to support the Prevent strand of CONTEST by connecting counter-terrorism policing, neighbourhood policing and communities. All activity undertaken is based on threat, risk and vulnerability, with a key responsibility to manage a caseload and take action to identify, support, safeguard and disrupt those identified as vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism, working collaboratively with our statutory and non-statutory partners and the community.The purpose of the role is to support the PREVENT strand of CONTEST by connecting counter-terrorism policing, neighbourhood policing and communities. All activity undertaken is based on threat, risk and susceptibility, with a key responsibility to manage a caseload and take action to identify, support, safeguard and disrupt those identified as susceptible to radicalisation and extremism, working collaboratively with our statutory and non-statutory partners and the community. ERSOU CTP covers the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, with Bedfordshire as the lead force.
The role will require responsibility to maintain Prevent case management and manage the threat, risk and susceptibility associated with individuals, institutions and ideology and to act as the case officer for referrals allocated to Prevent, taking the lead in information gathering amongst partners to inform and develop tactical options and safeguarding measures working cooperatively with partners to deliver this. Supporting of individuals and institutions adopted into the Channel process and maintaining oversight of each allocated case until such a time as the threat/risk is removed/reduced. Identify and maintain relationships with key individuals and institutions in the community to promote Prevent and support its delivery and objectives. Assess community tensions through liaison with community cohesion teams to assist in the assessment of executive actions and other CT consequence management.
Support partners with training and engagement to improve their decision making and the quality of Prevent referrals and act as a conduit between local policing and CT policing to promote the mainstream delivery of Prevent. Work with partners to utilise their powers to disrupt and deter persons believed to be extremists or susceptible to radicalisation and compile evidence to support Local Authorities to take action under the Children's Act with regard to safeguarding children, including wards of Court. Support national CT deployments where needed and provide disruptive activity to CT policing-led activities, including deploying as a CT contact officer for executive actions. Tackle the threat of extremism through contact and engagement with persons of interest to disrupt their activity, including lawfully disrupting events involving extremist speakers.
The duties of a Prevent officer are wide-ranging and can encompass any of the above, with local management directing individual tasking in line with one or more of the areas of work as detailed. Consequently, there is an expectation of flexibility in terms of duties and deployment at any given time.
