This a unique opportunity to join the YHROCU Regional Technical Surveillance Unit (RTSU) as a Specialist Support Officer. ( SSU )
Specialist Support Officers are required to undertake Type E surveillance operations utilising specialist covert tactics and equipment in the gathering of intelligence, targeting organised criminality and other force and regional priorities.
Candidates must hold the following prerequisite training to be eligible to apply :
- Successful completion of the level one Surveillance Course, or equivalent military course and evidenced extensive deployment experience.
- Successful completion of Covert Rural Observation Post (CROP) course or equivalent military course and evidenced extensive deployment experience.
- Ability and willingness to attend any training courses associated with the Specialist Support Officer role and responsibilities.
Other Essential Criteria for this role include;
- Current and full UK/European driving licence required and the ability to travel nationally when required.
- Prepared to work long and unsociable hours on occasion often at short notice.
- Can demonstrate the ability to self-motivate and work effectively on own initiative while working under pressure in stressful and challenging situations.
- Willingness and ability to undertake work within a wide range of internal and external environments including working at heights and working in confined spaces at all times of the day and in any safe working weather conditions.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
Excellent Teamworking, Communication and organisational skills required to help successfully deliver a Specialist Support capability.
If not already acquired, the successful applicant will also need to undertake Type E training ( 2 x 4 week assessed courses at the College of Policing ).
Candidates for this challenging position must be highly motivated and disciplined, work well as part of a team and remain calm under pressure.
Applicants should be aware that SSU tasks can be physically demanding and should be able to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, responding at short notice, day or night to time critical operational requirements.

This role requires a post holder to be able to generally demonstrate the core capabilities specified below.
